She is...

Saying "blah blah blah blah blah" and "dadadadadada"
Crossing her ankles all the time like the lady she is
Laughing at herself every time after she sneezes
Peeing in the bath all the time...and to date pooped once too. (haha I was working. Poor David)
Loving her parents and getting really excited when she sees us
Whining if the food isn't shoveled in her mouth fast enough
Rolling over from her tummy to her back more. (4 times today!)
Smiling every time I kiss her cheek
Hitting whatever she can with her hand when she's excited. Grandma just sticks her hand under Kyla's hand and calls that a "high five" haha

Just a little update on the nugget. I find myself not wanting to forget anything! It's all too great. :)

Love Day

Love day is always pretty mellow at our house. This year was no exception. I worked that night so David came home a little early. He got me chocolate covered strawberries as always, bless his guts, and a cute basket filled with lots of treats. David got some white chocolate macadamien nut cookies. Gag. But he loves them so there you go. My cute gifts :)

The biggest thing on my mind was something I was reminded of recently. Love is so great but marriages have to be worked at a little. My little tips for myself...and for my future self re-reading this post. Improve and try to be better for the other person (if not your own happiness) and nurture and build the other person up more then you think you need to just because. Celebrate love everyday and share that with your love. Don't be so critical because there will always be little things if you're looking for them. Be positive and you'll be surprised how those little things aren't even there anymore. Hug each other like you may just never let go and laugh together all the time. Talk about everything (GOOD and bad) and be supportive and compassionate to your love's thoughts. Learn and build and let it go. Be patient and don't expect perfection since you're not giving that yourself. Relish in all the good times and never forget the times that pop up as perfection when you're not looking. Love is too marvelous to let it slip so always do the things above and it won't. I love love and I won't take the love I got with my man for granted. :)

We did get away for a date night on Friday. David's mom was in town so she babysat and we went to sushi and a movie. It felt reckless. Haha like we were childless or something. It was great to spend some one on one time together. Later that night we went out with some friends to take some night pictures up the canyon. It was freezing so I bundled up until I thought I would be hot. We all drove together and when we got there Kateka and I stood outside for probably 5 minutes before getting back in the car because the wind and cold was too much. Haha such girls. Anyways the guys shot for like 3 hours which meant Kateka and I sat for like 3 hours but we still had a fun time. Eating candy/talking about what city girls we are/climbing into the front seats for the seat warmers without touching the cars leather seats with our wet shoes...good times. David, Stu, and Brady got some great shots that I will have to do a whole separate post about. They're pretty great. Either way we had a bedtime of 3:30am that night so we really were reckless.

Hope you all had wonderful love days and even if the concept is stupid I hope you don't take love in whatever shape or form you have it for granted.

Tales from the ER

A lot of this post is done in true Liz sarcasm so please read accordingly. Thanks.

Just a recommendation...don't take 84 soma. (a muscle relaxer) It's not a good idea. I hope that lady lived. It was sketch to say the least. Also don't be a stupid teenage girl and take 100 ibuprofen. It may get you attention but then we lock you in a room with nothing since you're suicidal and you're left alone. Shoot. Mission accomplished? Didn't think so.

Hey drug seekers? I can smell you from a mile away. Literally. Because you always smell of stale stale smoke. You fell in your kitchen/down the stairs/rounding a corner..either way your ankle is broken and you're sure of it. Your pain on a scale from 1-10? An 11 always. Your ankle always comes back totally normal and then we charge you 13 times as much for 800mg ibuprofen and send you home. Don't hospital bounce within IHC. We share notes and we know exactly what you're doing.

Don't bring your kid here for a sore throat. This is an ER, not your docs office or an instacare. I've had 3 people in the last week tell someone they're on the phone with that they are at their drs. No you're not. Instead of saying, "what are we seeing you for?" I'm going to start saying, "what's your emergency?" if you can answer that question without saying, "wellllll......" then you are welcome in my ER.

We had a 20 yr old yesterday with extremely high potassium. That causes heart attacks just in case you didn't know. Not a good thing to have too much potassium. Anyways she went from walking in and giving us a urine sample to having a crash cart in her room and her heart rate over 200 in a matter of minutes. I was in the middle of a conversation with one of the techs when he realized that she was about to crash so everyone ran in there calling for the dr stat and started pushing drugs to prevent a heart attack. She wasn't in one of our trauma rooms but she wasn't stable enough to move so everyone was packed in rm 7 which is right in front of my desk. So I sat and watched. It's a very interesting process to take in. That poor girl. Well she never ended up crashing because of all the meds they pushed so she was just taken right up to an ICU bed. Then the tech returned to pick up our convo right where we left off. Just in the business of saving lives folks.

There is a new question that is causing quite the hoopla lately. Tell me your opinion people. I ask, "are you Hispanic, Latino, or of Spanish origin?" are you offended? Then I ask, "and your race as you'd like it listed?" Listen, these aren't as tricky as you think they are. Are you Hispanic? No? Then say no. Is your mother Chilean? Then say yes. Your race...please don't give me a hard time about asking this. It's a legal question and I cannot speculate. Trust me when I say I couldn't care less what you are. So calm down and tell me. Also I don't have an option for 50/50 so just pick one. I also don't care if you're 1/16 something so don't bother going into it, this is not a family history question. Lets move on. Overall I haven't had much push back from pts, it has been from ER staff. One dr told me I can't ask that question and do you know what I said? "I'm pretty sure the people auditing my accounts don't care about little old you and your opinion so I'll be asking it until I'm told not to by them." He caused major drama and got an email from the CEO from the hospital telling him to piper down. So that you are all briefed, its a Joint Commission requirement that we ask these questions and its for statistical purposes. Census. Just like the government, isn't it? Well either way, it's not me. People have the option not to answer if they'd prefer not to but really most people are ok with it and it's not that big of a deal so if you're not ok with it I hope this post helped change your mind.

Xoxo and junk.

A Whole New Girlllllllll

....Like a whole new world from Aladdin but with girl instead. :] Kyla has really changed just over the past 2 weeks. All the sudden I feel like she is this interactive girl who chats and screams and laughs and makes funny faces. She was doing those things before but I feel like there is a change. Its been so much fun to watch her find her little personality. She has always talked to herself but now she's talking directly to you. She'll respond when you finish talking and then smile so big that her nose scrunches and her eyes squint. I have no idea but I love it. I have a few funny videos of her that I'll have to get unloaded from our camera. She's so funny with her faces now. Its either a very concentrated look, or she's surprised by something and as soon as you smile so does she. She smiles and laughs all the time. Her face is always covered in drool which shows up in most pictures lately! She sucks her lips in and looks like she's really thinking and then she smacks them out and laughs at herself. She rocks back and forth all the time. She loves to rock in her bouncer so now she rocks even when you're just holding her on your lap. She's grabbing things with her thumb and her pointer finger only as well as her whole hand now and she's started burying her face into you or a burp cloth if she's tired. If you hold her up on your lap she thinks that means you're going to bounce her so she'll start pumping those little legs. She's rolled over twice from her tummy to her back! haha BIG news. It was right in a row and she was in the best of moods so I haven't been able to get her to do it again but at least we know she can! I laugh at all the new things she does constantly and I can't get enough.
What was in that bottle???

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH

Grandparents

Davids dad loves being a grandpa. I've never seen a bigger smile on his face then when he's holding or playing with Kyla. Melts my heart. He loves to make funny faces at Kyla and see if she'll laugh or just stare at him. She sometimes cries but he still thinks she's cute. He's here from Japan right now and I've captured some cute moments.

My mom is such a cute grandma. First of all over half Kyla's diapers have been ones she's donated to her and she's also responsible for Kyla's formula since she got me the Sam's club membership I need to buy it. Not to mention the countless outfits/toys/books/funny holiday themed hats shes gotten her. She's the most generous grandma ever. She also loves to play with Kyla and talk to her on speakerphone all the time. She loves to make Kyla laugh and shes pretty good at it. Kyla LOVES grandma Sheryl and boy does grandma Sheryl love her. She's also never smiling bigger then when her 3 grand kids are around. See?

Nana k (David's mom) Loves with a capital L being Kyla's grandma. She's got no others to call her very own and loves to play with Kyla and tell her over and over how beautiful she is or how much she loves her. She loves to receive picture messages of Kyla doing funny things like holding her own bottle or being cute in a new outfit. Most of all she loves the time she gets to spend with her.

Grandpa Dan and Grandpa Ted are more low key but they still love this baby girl. Anytime they get to spend with her is precious and you can see it in their eyes. Nothing makes Grandpa Dan happier then seeing Kyla smile and laugh and to watch grandma Sheryl play with her. Grandpa Ted has quiet but darling moments that you have to be paying attention to see. They're both great examples to Kyla of kind loving men and she better aim for a husband just like them.

Honorary mention-- YaYa and Papa aka Wendy and Terry. The best honorary grandparents Kyla could have. She sees them all the time and she loves papa. She's laughs and smiles for him like its nothing. YaYa has gotten her some super cute outfits and loves to play with her and help her sit up and roll over. Anytime Kyla cries YaYa yells, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" even if she didn't do anything! Haha
Aren't grandparents the best? :)

David's 28th

David turned 28! His dad is currently here from Japan so for the first time in years David got to spend his birthday with his dad! Pretty cool. I love this man and I'm so happy he was born 28 years ago. I've never met a more driven, talented, smart man in my life. He makes me and Kyla so happy. He brings out the best in me and makes me a better person. He cuts me breaks where I fall short and for some crazy reason he loves me. I don't get it but I love it too much to really question it. :]
Not the best picture of us...but the most recent.
David and I have gotten sloppy when it comes to presents. Mutual gifts or pick whatever you want and get it. This year I decided I should do something cute and different. So I had 2 shirts made. Just simple and stupid but they had funny things that I hoped he would love on them. One says, "What up Pawtna" because he says that all the time and it's funny. The other says, "get that bird away from me" because it's a line that for some reason we say all the time to each other. It's from Date Night. It's hilarious how Tina Fey says it so just for no reason at all it comes out of our mouths and we both crack up. I love our funny sense of humor. For as basic as they are David loved his shirts and we had a good laugh over them.
Here's to the next 28 years together :] Love you babe.

My Nephew's Funnier Then Your Nephew

Jack has been cracking me up lately. I can't believe how big he is and what a big personality he has.

A few weeks ago we were at my moms house for dinner. I was sitting on the couch talking to jack when Kyla sneezed. Jack, without really pausing what he was telling me, said, "bless you". I started to laugh so then he stopped what he was doing and looked up at me to smile. He laughed and said, "did I just say that?" haha I said, "yes you did" and I'm still laughing about it right now. I'm not sure if he didn't realize he had said it or he didn't know what he had said but either way he's funny.

The other night we were at a family bowling party in honor of what would have been my grandpa's 100th birthday. I was kissing jack's cheeks and he kept wiping his face off after while staring at me with a huge grin. So I would say "don't wipe off my kisses!!" and I'd kiss him again, so he'd wipe them off again. He would die laughing every time he wiped my kiss off. Haha jerk.

Also at the bowling party I took him up to the salad bar to see what he wanted. He was looking at it and said, "I want potatoes." I told him there weren't any potatoes on the salad bar and he said, "no. TO-MAT-TOES!" haha gotcha buddy. So I piled his plate up with TOMATOES and goldfish and beets and peas and whatever else he wanted and then I ate it. Because he didn't want it. He did however want his pasta salad but he would blow on it first to cool it down haha. Also after I added everything to his salad he would make me give him one to eat right then. Once I dropped a little on the counter and he said, "I'll pick it up, and I'll eat it."...and he did.

Love his guts.

Bruges Waffles and Frites

Oh.my.gosh I die. David suggested this joint the other night for dinner with his fam. He was the only one that had been there before. He guided us in what to get and bless him for doing so. Now I'll guide you. If, when you go there I mean, you must get their machine gun sandwich. Here is the description from the website...
-A hearty lamb merguez sausage served on a fresh baguette, stuffed with our world famous fries and topped with Bruges' favourite andalouse sauce...give it a shot!

Yes. Yes. Give it a shot. I don't jump when I hear lamb but this was actually spectacular. It had just enough spice and the sauce was to die for.

The real gem from this place was a torpedo waffle. Uhhhhmazing. They make their waffles with a dough instead of a batter, they place Belgian chocolate in the middle, and we went the extra mile and got ice cream on top. The warm waffle with melted chocolate and cold vanilla bean ice cream was freaking heaven in my mouth. Try it. You'll be blown away too. Anyway, here's that description from the website...
-Our classic Liège waffle stuffed with two bars of Belgian chocolate melting while you eat it...makes your heart melt!

I disagree on one thing. My heart didn't melt...it stopped.
Here's the link to their menu.. http://www.brugeswaffles.com/menu.php

Creepy Homeboy

Sometimes I attract creepers. Completely unintentionally, but I do. Being married helped this a little but I guess they still pop up every now and then. Like the guy in the ER tonight for groin pain that was totally hitting on me and winked at me on the way out. Even if I was single...really? No. And there was no confusion about my marital status. He commented on my ring and all I could say was, "yep my husbands a keeper." Yeah you and your groin pain take care.

I had another creeper the other day that I thought I must share.

The night of the Superbowl we were at Wendy’s and I got a phone call. It was a number I didn’t recognize but I figured it might be someone in my ward or something so I answered it. Some random guy (with yelling and cheering coming from the background) was like…..well I’ll just lay it out so it’s easy to understand.

Homeboy—“Where you at??”
Me—“Who is this?”
Homeboy—“Who’s this?”
Me—“This is Liz.”
Homeboy—“Oh, I have the wrong number.”
Me—“Yes you do. Buh bye.”

So that was the end of the convo. Later (like 2 hrs later) he texts me….
Exact texts:
Homeboy—“U guys wanna party????  We have a room full of drank….”
Me—“You have the wrong number kid.”
Homeboy—“No I don’t, we juss met. Let’s party…..????

So I did not text this weirdo back. I was thinking about how funny it would be if I had a full conversation with him but decided that I shouldn’t. I almost text back, “Oh yeah, I’ll be there. Its ok if my husband and baby come right?”…but I didn’t. I wake up the next morning with another text AND a voicemail from homeboy. The text said—“Come party w us…..:-)” sent at 12:47am. No thanks creep leave me alone! You and your room full of drank party without me. The voicemail was WAY ridiculous. I can’t remember exact but here's the gist...
—“Hey. Come party with us, we’re in room 403. Come through. bye.”

Haha I have no bloody idea but I died a little. Come through?? I dont even know you. David wanted to call him right then but I was like no. I’m sure he was drunk and if he texts me again I’ll let him know what I think about his creepy probably 14 yr old self but I’m not too worried about it. Pretty ridiculous. This is my life :)

Leeches

You know those people in your life that are leeches? Whether its your moola/possessions that they're trying to use you for or they're content just sucking the life out of you, everyone has a leech at some point or another. In this blog post I'm referring to the latter. I googled 'how to remove a leech' so I could joke about this particular sitch and this is what I found...
If you are bitten by a leech and are compelled to remove it before it has had its full (leeches drop off on their own when they are done feeding), you can do so by following these steps:
  1. Identify the anterior (oral) sucker which will be found at the small end of the leech.
  2. Put your finger on your skin adjacent to the oral sucker
  3. Gently but firmly slide your finger toward the wound where the leech is feeding. Using your fingernail, push the sucker sideways away from your skin.
  4. Once you have dislodged the oral sucker, quickly detach the posterior (rear) sucker (the fat end of the leech). Try flicking the leech or prodding with your fingernail. As you work to remove the leech, it will attempt to reattach itself.
  5. Keep the wound clean -- minor cuts in tropical climates can quickly become infected. The leech itself is not poisonous. The wound will itch as it heals.
NOTE: Is it generally not advised to attempt removing a leech by burning with a cigarette; applying mosquito repellent, shampoo, or salt; or pulling at the leech. This can result the leech regurgitating into the wound and causing infection much worse than the leech bite itself.

In the case that a leech invades an orifice like your nose, ear, or mouth you have a slightly more serious problem since the leach will expand as it fills with blood. If you have access to strong (drinkable) alcohol or hydrogen peroxide you can try gargling (if the leech is in your mouth). Worst case scenario you may have to puncture the leech with a sharp object.

When I first saw this I was gagging but as it pertains to the people leeches, there's so much material I don't even know where to start. Haha I found this to be very true so I'll just leave it at that. :] Luckily I don't have any people like this in my life currently. I punctured that mother trucker.
