Tales from the ER

Here I go. My first "tales from the ER". Tonight has been the busiest night in my ER career. On top of that I have seen a lot of people that I know actually. Not a place you want to see people you know. We had a ambulance with a pt having an "oob" out of body episode. Try banding that. Not easy. We've had two assaults and what seems like a million "abd px" abdominal pain. Mostly tonight more then crazy get ya talking type patients, we've had a lot more scary cases that make me sad. I had a dad come running in with his son having a seizure. After a while of the drs working with him they marked him as a code red (the worst) and transferred him to primarys via life flight. Breaks my heart. It's my first red but from what I've heard not many reds make it. I hope this little boy does. We had a little boy with a "ha" headache and slurred speech. Not normal people, if your child ever slurs their words...dr immediately. We had a little boy post op (you know what that means right...post surgery) that was having an allergic reaction to the pain meds. Throw in a few dog bites, broken limbs, and headaches/fevers and you have my night. Whew. Not quite done but almost.

In other news, my car is in the shop for like the gazillionth time. Please bless it gets fixed for real for real this time. I can't take it anymore. I have a million...or 3...training things coming up at work including one that will make my work day 17 hours. Seriously? And Kyla apparently laughed at David for the first time tonight. Definitely something I wanted to miss. Ah well, I'm sure she'll do it again soon. There's my rant for tonight. May be back tomorrow night for another sesh. Xoxo

The ER

Going back to work sucks, can I just say. Not only does going back to work suck but going to a new location that happens to be the ER sucks even more. I trained the past couple days but you never really know until you start working by yourself. If I had the option to quit today I would. Wouldn't everyone their first day though? The ER is stressful. I don't think I handle pressure well...well, I guess in my other areas I was comfortable with rushing or stressful add ons and what not but I was more comfortable with those jobs. When someone runs in saying their daughter isn't breathing...I panic. (that happened an hour ago and I'm still shaking.) Never a dull moment though and I don't think I'll even have a lot of down time to think about how stressed I might be. I'm shocked I have time to write this right now. During any down time I have I should start writing some 'tales from the ER' blogs. Already tonight I've seen a man who had diarrhea coming out of his stomach directly, a man who was like cartoon intoxicated (like Peter from family guy), and a man who was having a seizure from alcohol withdrawals. I can't imagine what's to come if this is only my first day. Wish me luck (and good health because I don't want to take any of this home with me please).

Labor Day '11

First time getting away with Kyla. So much fun. Full of time with the fam, Zanks, and the new and (is it unfair if I say MUCH) improved cabin! :] We went fishing...and didn't catch anything, played lots of card games and Kellee and I had a blast losing, helped Zin get on the walking wagon, and I personally spent almost all weekend running away from bugs...not my scene people. Even though bugs spent the entire time trying to invade my life I still had a great long weekend. Kyla didn't become extremely familiar with the great outdoors seeing as its full of bugs, bright sun, and wind and currently she doesn't enjoy any of those things but I do hope that she takes more after her dad and enjoys camping in the future. The new cabin (which went up so quickly!) is UHHHmazing. I know Kyla will have a ton of great memories there all her life.

Great weekend :]

Zin's 1!

This post is entirely dedicated to Zinni so Kellee, hold her up to the screen and let her read it.
Oh my little Zinni! I'm so glad that I get to be your Auntie Liz. I love your playfulness and your beautiful personality. I love your sense of humor already. I love this learning phase your in where you ask "what" to everything and then repeat a lot of what is said back to you. I love your little grunts and sounds you make (which we all repeat or laugh right after you do them). I love your parents and watching them raise you to be the gorgeous independent that you are. Such a little adult already. I can't wait to continue watching you grow and learn and I can't wait to watch you and your little cousin Kyla play for the rest of your lives. Please be sweet to her and teach her all the great things you already know...like how to sleep like a champ. I love you to death and am so grateful to have your little face be part of our crew! Happy 1st birthday!

Our "Little" Chunk

Kyla is getting so big! Not just older big..I mean like humongous. haha Don't worry I'm not giving her a complex about being a fat baby. I love every single fat roll on her and to be honest I totally expected/hoped to have a fat baby. There is nothing cuter. The pediatrician was a little shocked about how much she's eating (about 32 oz a day) but she has had one heck of a growth spurt since he saw her last so what does he expect in between 2 weeks and 2 months? There are some big differences between the 2 stats sheets....
2 week stats:
Weight--9 lbs 2 oz (90%)
Length--20.7 in (75%)
Head--34.8 cm (20%)
Weight for her height 50%
2 month stats:
Weight--15 lbs 1 oz (99%)
Length--23.7 in (80%)
Head--39.4 cm (50%)
Weight for her height 90%

Right now she is:
-Hating tummy time. Everytime we try it out she buries her face straight down and cries. Haha someday she'll love it. She does have strong head muscles though. She can pretty much hold her head on on her own and really loves looking around.
-Loving being held. So much so that she has a hard time being put down to sleep. Oh well. I go back and forth about what to do here but I've come to the conclusion (tonight..who knows what I'll decide tomorrow) that she's little and I don't want to let her cry it out yet. Plus she does better when I just let her decide on her own when she should sleep and how long and where. She's a stubborn little beauty so if you try to force anything you might be in for a world of hurt. Like trying to force her to stay awake so she'll sleep well at night...HA try not going to sleep until 1am parents. What'd ya learn?
-Loving to smile and scream. Not at the same time obviously. She has the prettiest smiles and I catch myself being a fool just to see her smile again. I'm sure she'll smile a lot for the rest of her life (minus a few teenage years) but there is something about her toothless lit up face that just absolutely melts my little black heart right now. Her most smiley times are morning time naturally, but even more so at 4am. Makes getting up worth it. For everything she is, a quiet baby she is not. If she is unhappy you know about it and bless those little lungs of hers. No problems there. :]
-Eating what I consider a lot but who can judge. She takes 6-8 oz about 5 times a day. Doesn't have as much trouble burping as she used to but if you don't get the burp out she tends to spit up. If you can get a couple good burps she most of the time won't spit up at all. Weird. Never knew that one really had to do with the other...as stupid as that comment sounds.
-Slept through the night one glorious night to date. David was out of town and she slept for 11 1/2 hours straight. It.Was.Life Changing. It gives me great hope and promise for the future nights at our house. In general though she sleeps for about 5 hours solid and then is up to eat more. She's pretty sporadic which is something I didn't expect. 4 hours here, 6 hours here, maybe a whole night tonight...I thought she'd pick one and stick to it but nope. She keeps me on my toes.

Each new thing she does just makes me fall in love with her even more. My world is changed forever and I love it so much.

Lin's baby showa

One of my cute high school friends Linley is about to have her baby girl Olivia. I'm so excited for her, especially since I just went through all the things she has to look forward to...like labor. ;] I went to her baby shower a couple weeks ago. It was so fun to see her and the high school crew. It was also the first time most of the girls had met Kyla so even though we were late because of her it was really fun. (I guess I should just get used to being late...r then I normally am) I can't wait to see what Linley's gorgeous daughter is going to look like. Only a couple more weeks!
