We had Kyla's 12 month check the other day. Her stats were..
Weight: 25.1 oz. 95%
Height: 29 in. 50%
Head: 46.1 cm. 75%
Weight for height: 99% {That's my girl!}
She had to get 4 shots and a finger poke that day. Picked.on. She was so funny with her finger poke though. She didn't cry she just mean mugged the nurse poking her and then she had 2 bandaids put on that little finger. First things first she tried to put that straight in her mouth. I spent 5 minutes batting her hand away and trying to distract her before I was like, "fine, taste that sucker and see how bad it tastes/how terrible the texture is and then we can move on." So I let her put it in her mouth and everything was great except for the fact that she liked it. So then I went back to batting that hand away from her mouth while we waited for the dr to come in. I look away for one second and when I look back there were no bandaids on that finger. I yell, "no way!" and shove my fingers into her mouth to scoop it out. I got it and the crisis was averted but it was so funny. My sister in law, brother in law, and I were cracking up the rest of the time.
Can't believe she's already a year. Next thing I know she'll be a 5 year old and then driving and then up and married.
She's started clapping her chubby little hands which I die over, growling at us in a playful sense, sleeping on her belly, and kind of repeating some of what we say. Like "yay!" or "tada!". Sunday at Wendy's house she would even repeat "Yaya" (that's what Wendy goes by) so Wendy was thrilled! Still not amped on crawling/walking but we're working on it :)

Collective Soul
The first CD David's dad gave to him was Collective Soul. He has LOVED them from that point on. I have always LIKED them but they were never top of my list. Well last year sometime David told me Collective Soul was coming to UT on tour and he had to go see them. When he told me ticket prices I simply said, "Do you really want to spend that much on concert tickets?" He decided not to and that was the end of that. A few months after that he randomly said one day, "Well my favorite band of all time came to town and you wouldn't let me go see them!" I had no idea it meant so much to him. (He should have said yes when I asked him if he really wanted to spend that much) I felt bad and told him that if they ever were to come back we would most definitely go.
Well guess who came back?? Collective Soul! They were touring just their Dosage album which happened to be David's favorite CD. So as promised we got tickets right away. The concert was on Tuesday June 19. That day ringing a bell to anyone? Yep, Kyla's birthday. Haha we left our daughter to go see a concert on her birthday. Its ok right? We celebrated the Saturday before and we went to the zoo the next day and she'll never remember right? At least thats what we tell ourselves. Aunt Allie and Uncle Ben happened to be staying at our house so they watched the babe and we went to 'In the Venue' for the concert. Its teeny which I wasn't amped on because there were a lot of people there. When we finally were able to go into the area where the band performs we booked it upstairs and actually got a pretty good standing spot looking right down at the stage. I watched the pit below get fuller and fuller and kept saying over and over how glad I was that I wasn't involved in that! We had some fun people watching and ended up standing next to a really nice couple that were just as appreciative of us not elbowing them as I was about them not intruding on my space. There was a REAL classy lady and her...boyfriend?...that ended up knowing someone and got to sit in the "VIP" section right in front of us. I can't even tell you how trashy she was because at the mere mention this blog would turn into white trash.
When the band FINALLY came out I was surprisingly loving every minute of it. I couldn't sing along with the rest of the crowd but I sure could rock my little body with them. I fell in love with the energy, the atmosphere, and the man in the pit below that couldn't have been more into it. He either had his hand up fist pumping to the beat or he was beating his hand against his chest to the beat. He was amazing.
Highlights include:
Watching for that amazing man and also the lady in the pink sweatsuit through the entire concert. Both were extremely entertaining.
The people standing next to us getting me in the corner of their picture and joking about it asking, "How do we find you on facebook to tag you in this?" Haha I sure didn't tell them.
Seeing our bishop and a couple other people from our ward. His favorite band too! Small world.
Catching a used drum stick that was thrown to the audience by the lead singer Ed Roland. BEST.MOMENT.EVER. David has it on video actually since he was filming the song when Ed decided to throw a bunch out. Everyone after was high fiving David and wanting to see it. One guy even offered to buy it. No way that was happening!
iphone pictures. What are you going to do. Such a fun date night and now I can't stop listening to the Dosage album on repeat!

She Calls You Dad
Whether he chooses to believe it or not she says dad. She loves him so much. She laughs for him like no one else. She looks for him when he walks away. She hears the ice machine and starts rocking back and forth thinking its the back door with her dad coming through. She pulls faces that are his spitting image. She looks at pictures of him and beams the biggest smile possible and says dad.
Born on Fathers Day last year she is a true daddy's girl through and through. Happy 2nd Fathers Day David. Thank you for being so sweet, sensitive, loving, funny, playful, and patient with our little girl. She's lucky to have you to call Dad. I cherish the memories I have of you holding and loving her, fighting me to get to her first when she wakes up, and dancing around with her in the hallway. You're the best dad ever.

My Little Lady Turns 1
1 year ago yesterday I was driving to the hospital with David. My mom was telling me Kyla was in heaven saying goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa (my grandparents) and our other loved ones in preparation to come down to us. We were crying and excited and hopeful that she'd be here soon. Little did we know it would be 24 hours and a nicu later before we see her. However she made her grand entrance a year ago today and the most important thing was that she was here. This year has flown by. Sometimes since she's not crawling or walking I don't feel like she's even a year old but she sure isn't my newborn babe who loved to cuddle and sleep on our chests anymore.
Now she is...
Saying dad. First word. Pretty clearly actually. She sees him in a picture she immediately says it. Sometimes I think she says hi and then dad when she sees him but is it in my head? I'm not sure.
Saying this. Or Liz. I can't tell but I think it's this. Pretty funny if she's calling me Liz already ;)
Sleeping different hours all the time. Sometimes 11 sometimes 12 sometimes 13 hours at night. (anyway you slice it I know I'm lucky that way.) Naps are not so fabulous. Forget cleaning or even breathing too loud cause you'll wake her up.
Eating anything you're willing to feed her. Literally. Pretty open minded about what goes in her mouth.
Still smiling 99% of the time when I look at her. For no reason she just smiles when I'm giving her attention. Now she laughs if I look away real fast and then look back at her. Funniest mom ever.
Being a baby of extremes. Sometimes she's throwing tantrums and going into crisis mode at the drop of a hat and other times she couldn't be happier. I swear her cry and screams are getting louder all the time.
Not loving when mom and dad leave. Especially when she sees us leave. When I drop her at Kellee's to go to work she immediately know when she sees Kellee whats up and starts to hold onto me and cry. It breaks my heart and in some weird way makes me feel like I'm doing an ok job if she wants me around, right? Haha I know. Twisted.
Rocking back and forth and dancing to all music. She loves ANY music. Church hymns, mother goose nursery rhymes, David's weird techno, and all music on tv or movies.
Blowing raspberry's and still clicking her tongue. Mimicking me right after I do it.
We threw her a ladybug birthday party. It was so much fun. She ate her cake like it was no big deal. Just a typical Tuesday night dinner is how she acted. She had one moment where the sugar hit her I think that she went a little dazed but she didn't even have a crazy sugar high after. Stomach of steel I guess.
I find myself lately just stopping and enjoying every minute with her. I love when I walk into the room and she looks up at me and smiles. Stops playing with the books to make sure I see her and smile back at her. She's the greatest thing ever.

Epitome of Summer
Parties. Celebrations. BBQ's. Late nights enjoying the warm breeze. The summer smell is in the air and we've been loving every minute of it. We had a very eventful Saturday a couple weeks ago.
Bridal shower for cute Jenn that I used to work with. Stoked for her and her cute soon to be hub. So fun to see old coworkers from IMED.
Jack is 3 years old. No he's not. But he is. I can't believe my little nephew is so big. A walking talking jokester who cracks me up. His party was a blast and I love spending time with the fam.
Shelli graduated nursing school!!! Epic. So proud. I remember the day she got accepted and I know how hard she's had to work for this. Now, someone hire her for RV ER. Kthanks. The party was so great and I love her family too so it was great seeing them. Her parents own horses so Kyla had her first experience seeing a horse...I don't think she much cared. :)

Nights Out
Night out with the Zanks
Girls night out in Park City
I love nights out.
PS--How freaking cute is Kellee pregnant? I know right.
PPS--How fun is it to still have GNO with my high school friends.

The Babe
Kyla rolled over from her back to her stomach several times today! So exciting. Lately she has been almost rolling to her stomach but not flipping the arm out and then she rolls back to her back. But today she wanted the toys enough to roll to what she wanted. She wasn't even really screaming at me so that's a huge improvement!
Those pictures are from a couple weeks ago but I think they are cute enough to be seen :]

Mystery Mighty Mouse
So after living for 3 years in our house that was built in a field we have our first mouse in our basement. You think it would have come long ago but it didn't. I jinxed us. I was talking with a nurse at my work about a virus you can get from mice and how you should wet down any mouse poop you see before cleaning it up because that virus (that can kill you) is inhaled. I said, "we've never had any mice. Pssshhh we'll be fine". So the next night David and I were watching a movie and he screamed, "what was that!!" I was watching the movie so I started explaining what had happened wondering why in the world he was screaming that at me. Then he told me he had just seen a mouse run across our floor. He jumps up and runs into the room where he saw it go. I asked him what his game plan was if he ran into it. What was he going to do in his socks. Well he didn't see anything so we thought maybe it was a shadow. We start the movie again and not even 5 minutes later he's screaming again that he saw it squeeze under the door and run under our couch. We both scream and stand up on the couch yelling to each other about how we would never be able to get off our couch. We'd have to stay there forever. (obviously we're not fans of mice) David sees it run into our utility room so he yells at me to watch the door to make sure it didn't come out. He ran to get towels and shoved them underneath the door to trap it in there. The next day we bought 4 mouse traps and were sure we'd catch him within the hour. We still haven't caught him. David saw him once more over by our popcorn machine (I don't think so buddy) but again lost site of him. So we named him Mighty Mouse but I call him Mystery Mighty Mouse because I've never gotten a glimpse of him. Maybe David's crazy but our neighbors have seen a couple in their garage and in window wells around our development so I guess there is just a mouse infestation.
Best part of my mouse tales is my drive home last night. I get to our cross street where I turn left and as I start to make my turn I see a four legged rodent crossing the road. I stare to see if it was a mouse or even a rat. I determine it's a mouse but before I even know what I'm doing I've swerved back to going straight and I line my car up with it and I run it over. After I do this I think to myself, what did I just do? Hahaha I felt a bump as I drove over it but I'm looking back as I'm driving trying to see if I even got it. I think I did. Anywho I sat in my driveway laughing to myself, hoping it was the one from our basement so we don't have to have mid cinematic adventure meltdowns. It was 2am and no one was awake to hear about my ridiculous behavior so I peed to myself for a half an hour and went to bed. This morning on a morning walk with Kyla there was no evidence on the road. Maybe a bird picked it up? Although I don't prefer to be a murderer (I was pushed to it by our unwelcome house guest) I really hope it died.

The Grass is Always Greener
.....when you're looking at it and not sitting on it.
If you can't tell, Kyla hates sitting on grass. Haha its the funniest thing ever though so I had to take a few pictures. She sits in a killer pilates pose so that the least amount of her body possible is actually touching the ground and then screams. Poor girl, she's got a mean mom. I couldn't stop laughing. Here's to summer!
